This is on par with the moment that I learned “the alligator always eats the bigger number” when determining whether to use greater than or less than sign.

Like, my school made my beleaguered English instructor teach us nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc in fucking eleventh grade out of goddamn nowhere. All that third grade stuff, we redid it all. So between stupid shit like that and all of the district’s required reading and the required ACT/SAT prep, we never got to How To Write. The reason my entire school thought I was some writing prodigy was only because I actually knew some basic shit from years of fandom, not because I was actually in any way exceptional.

gdi it really fucking pisses me off when someone condescends about education. If you went to a public school, you were fucked. If you went to a public school in a poor community, you were double fucked. see: the fact that I still can’t do anything above basic algebra.
