Actually, people don’t give her enough credit. Instead, they assume she’s “stupid” because her costumes and makeup used to be pretty out there. She is so obsessed with education that her fans will show up to meet her just so they can impress her by showing their grades on their report cards or their diplomas or degrees. She makes a really big deal out of it too, especially when they understand how and why education is important for them personally and isn’t just a means to an end.

It’s kind of amazing that for some people, they managed to find enough resources such that their love of a celebrity inspired them to find alternate paths for themselves where our education system failed them. And yeah, that celebrity also performed “Stupid Hoe.”

I’d always liked Nicki’s music and badassery but the moment that made me really like her was after seeing the Ellen episode where she meets the British girls, Rosie and Sophia Grace, and she was so amazing. She offered to take them shopping for school supplies and told them to follow their musical dreams but to also stick with school. When she sang with them, she cleaned up the language of the song (they were 8 and 6, I think). I was blown away. She is so kind and gentle and graceful. I will always appreciate Nicki Minaj.

I love her so much. She’s beautiful. She’s smart. She’s kind. She’s talented. She’s bad ass. She’s perfect!

everyone who hates on Nicki Minaj can go straight to hell because she’s way more there for other women than almost any other female musician except for Beyonce.

No, this is a variation on a circle parry and a counter circle parry. Both are commonly taught in French and Italian style foil fencing.

A circle parry is when you avoid your opponents blade by moving your blade around theirs in a circle. A counter circle parry is circling around your opponents circle so that they can’t get their blade past to stab you.

When two fencers know each other well, this often happens. It becomes a game of chicken, it only ends when someone is willing to risk leaving an opening so that they can launch a different attack.

The foil version of this happens at least once a practice on my college fencing team. The only difference is that the blades are horizontal rather than diagonal.

….I just realized that I’ve been misidentifying the biggest flaw in the sentiment “Don’t sleep with a guy too soon or he’ll think you’re easy and won’t respect you in the morning!” for, like, years. All this time, I thought that flaw was the idea that anyone could tell me what to do with my body or when it was okay to do it (still a huge flaw, still bullshit), or the general heteronormativity of it all (always a huge flaw, always bullshit), or just the fact that these nebulous concept of ~easy~ and ~too soon~ are included, like if you don’t wait an arbitrary amount of time that varies by person to engage in a sex act you are somehow a less valuable person (still a HUGE flaw, still SUCH FUCKING BULLSHIT, oh my god).

But in fact the biggest flaw with this particular sentiment is that it suggests that people who wouldn’t respect me the morning after a mutual sex act are worth my time. It posits a situation containing a dude who would sleep with me and then decide he thought less of me for sleeping with him, and its solution to this problem, rather than “Sleep with people who aren’t total buttheads like this dude,” is “Well, just make sure you wait a little while before you bang him, because then he probably won’t lose respect for you for banging him, and keeping his respect is important.” Like, HOLY HELL FUCKING NO, BATMAN! What the shit kind of advice is that?? “It’s important that you keep the respect of this douchebag, and keep him from demonstrating to you that he is a douchebag, by giving him no opportunity to demonstrate to you that he’s a douchebag.” WHAT???

I mean, maybe this is the most obvious thing in the world to everyone else and I’m ridiculous for sitting here blinking at my computer screen in complete shock, but like. I never questioned this! All these years of saying “It’s bullshit to tell me what I can or can’t do with body!” and “It’s bullshit to try to value people by when or how much they have sex!” and “It’s bullshit to apply heteronormative standards to everything!” and it never once occurred to me to be like, “Also, who the fuck wants the respect of the hypothetical person who’d decide you were worthless if you fucked them too soon?” I feel like I just beat one of those Magic Eye puzzles from the newspaper and the picture it revealed to me was gross weird bullshit. Just. What.
