So pretty much everyone has their own AU ideas of how Harry Potter should have gone. There are half a dozen slytherin!Harry AUs out there that are decent (though none of which satisfy my BURNING NEED to have a Harry that is practical, socially adept and better able to understand political currents). And tbh I have a couple headcanons for how slytherin!Harry would work, myself.
But. Just think if Harry had been sorted as a hufflepuff.
He’d be trained to actually control his temper. He’d have classmates that were loyal instead of fairweather friends. And he’d be trained to be genuinely practical— hufflepuffs share that trait with slytherins, but are less likely to get distracted by dramatics (I say this with love, as a slytherin myself). They’d push him towards empathy. I also have high hopes that they’d do a better job of handling his trauma… (Lord knows McGonagall didn’t do much, apparently being very “stiff upper lip and all that” British)
