Sad news. Robert Morales, the creator of the Isiah Bradley Captain America, has passed away.
The mini-series that introduced Bradley is a personal favorite mine, and lead to Alan Heinberg’s creation of Eli Bradley, AKA Patriot, another favorite of mine.
Morales tackled a tricky subject with his series, and will be missed by me immensely.
Robert was a very kind, very classy guy in all my interactions with him online. He’ll be missed.
Rest in peace, Robert.R.I.P.

honestly tho I just don’t see how you can believe that Steve is a Republican if you even knew ANYTHING about him because Steve is literally an example of someone who would vote on those ~dumb social issues~ above all else, those are the things that matter the most to him and have since he was still a scrawny dude. People get way too caught up in “well he’s from the 40s” without actually knowing what the 40s were like and what Steve was like in that same time period, too.
And tbh it really annoys me because it’s almost always done by people who legitimately think that rich white businessman Tony Stark would vote Democrat. No. I hate to break it to everyone but 616 Tony probably gives no shits at all about ~social issues~ that don’t directly affect him and is much more likely to vote in ways that keep him rolling in the money/contracts etc. MCU!Tony probably voted Republican for a lot of his life too and IF he’s stopped it’s because he’s not voting anymore, imo.
Steve is the one who is going to give a shit about poor people getting fucked over so rich people don’t have to pay taxes, okay. He’s the one who will care that people who love each other can’t get married or that yes, racism is still alive and well in this country but nobody wants to admit it. Those social issues are the things that matter the most to Steve and they always have.
If you’re that desperate to make one half of this pairing homophobic or racist or any of those other things, it’s not going to be Steve. You need to be looking at the privileged white dude who was raised entirely in a world of alpha males, not the poor immigrant kid from NYC who’s spent his entire life standing up for people who were bullied just because it was the right thing to do. That’s kind of the entire point of Steve, you know?

steve rogers was born on july 4, 1922. he was seven when the stock market crashed on black tuesday. both his mother and his father were dead by the time he reached adulthood. he grew up poor. he was an art student. people smoked and swore and drank and did drugs around him. he went to war.

if you read a lot of army health record from WWII and a lot of the “Don’t get STDs” propaganda, there is a undertow of “look, we know some of u dudes are having sex with other dudes cos we are not idiots this is why we allot you assholes eight condoms a month.” and yes. The government gave them condoms. Because STD laid more people up than training accidents, etc.
Also, on an cheerful note, Bea Arthur was a marine in WWII and the only besmirchment on her record was for contracting a VD. All the peoples was having all the sex, ok.
Ps (edit) the government was in desperate need of warm bodies. Unless you were flaming gay, they took you. A lot of people knew someone gay in their unit and most people never said anything cos they were there to do a job.
I used to catalog and write abstracts for a lot of WWII docs. Venereal disease documents were my fave.
